The battle against breast cancer is more than $3,000 closer to victory thanks to the efforts of Zeta Tau Alpha.

ZTA held its 11th Annual Big Man On Campus contest on Wednesday, Feb. 19 in the Union Ballroom. The proceeds went to support ZTA's national philanthropy, the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Allison Nunnally, ZTA's fundraising coordinator, estimates proceeds were more than $3,000. This is the most money the event has ever raised.

Nunnally attributes such success to the support of the fraternities and sororities on campus, as well as an overwhelming amount of non-Greeks.

The evening was emceed by Frank Fortune and Benjy Thompson of the Downright Brothers Band. The tag-team partners' antics kept the audience in stitches all evening.

Plaques were awarded to the Greek organizations with the highest percentage in attendance. The fraternity winner was Sigma Pi and the sorority winner was Kappa Kappa Gamma.

The BMOC contest was filled with entertaining moments. The newly crowned Miss GSU 1997, Kip Corbin, performed her ventriloquist act.

She was followed by three stepshows. Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. performed. They were followed by the Ice Cold Brothers of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.

The defining moment of the successful evening was the performance given by the sisters of Zeta Tau Alpha. This unprecedented performance brought down the house, being the first from a white Greek organization at GSU. The performance sparked invitations to participate in step shows throughout Georgia.

"The evening sparked a feeling of unity among fraternities and sororities, both black and white," Jane Campaigne, Greek advisor, said.

The 14 contestants were judged on Activity, Swimwear and Formal Wear Revues. The evening's highlights included Travis Black's Disco Formal Wear outfit and Gordo Grant's "Baywatch" lifeguard bathing suit.

The fourth runner-up was Lenny Inzirillo, representing Pi Kappa Alpha. Third runner-up was Bobby West who represented Alpha Omicron Pi. Herb Milner, of Kappa Alpha, finished as second runner-up. Gordo Grant, representing Kappa Kappa Gamma, finished as first runner-up. The title of BMOC was taken home by Alpha Delta Pi's representative, Brad Inglesby.
